What unifies us

What we believe

We are an alliance of Christians across various denominations and traditions, but we are united by the essential tenets of the universal, catholic, orthodox Christian faith and by our common commitment to restoring the Mainline Protestant churches to Christ.

The 3 Ecumenical Creeds

We require all of our members to subscribe to the 3 Ecumenical Creeds the contain the essentials of Christianity: The Apostle's Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed (including Filioque). These creeds contain the core beliefs of the faith, such as the Virgin Birth, the full humanity and full divinity of Christ, His death for our sins, His bodily resurrection, His ascension into Heaven, and the future hope that He will return to judge and redeem the world.

The 5 Solas

Because we are all Protestants and we are all committed to reviving the Protestant traditions, we all subscribe to the core beliefs of the Protestant Reformation contained in the famous "5 Solas:"

SOLA GRATIA (salvation is by God's grace alone)
SOLA FIDE (through faith alone)
SOLUS CHRISTUS (in Christ alone)
SOLA SCRIPTURA (according to Scripture alone)
SOLI DEO GLORIA (for the glory of God alone)

Beliefs on various issues:

Gender and sexuality

We strongly believe, in accordance with the Holy Scriptures, that God created humanity in His image male and female. We believe that the natural gender binary is beautiful and is built into creation. We believe that human sexuality is a gift from God that is only intended or permitted to be expressed within marriage, which is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman. Thus we utterly reject the sexual revolution, hookup culture, no-fault divorce, pornography, homosexual relations, modern gender theory, and the LGBTQ+ movement.

Abortion

We strongly insist that all abortion is murder, due to the scientifically-proven fact that human life begins at conception. We confess a past failure of Protestants, both liberal and conservative, to properly condemn this barbaric evil. We therefore oppose abortion out of obedience to the commandment "Thou shall not murder." We also emphasize that it is our Christian duty to support women and children in need as Scripture commands.

Race relations

We affirm that all humans are made in the image of God, and that all races and ethnicities of the earth have a common ancestor. We believe that the Kingdom of God consists of people from every tribe, tongue, and nation, and therefore every race and ethnicity is a beautiful piece in the mosaic of humanity. We condemn all forms of racism, whether white supremacy or critical race theory. We do not believe it is wrong for one to value and protect their own heritage, nor is it wrong to criticize certain racial justice movements. We believe true racial reconciliation, the reversal of the Tower of Babel such as at Pentecost, can only happen through Christ and His Church.

Sin and Salvation

We believe the all humans are born with original sin (Psalm 51:5) which is a result of mankind's fall and rebellion against God. We utterly reject the modern idea that most people are basically good, because the Bible teaches that nobody is good (Romans 3:10) and that all people deserve God's judgement in Hell. (Psalm 130:3) However, we also believe that in His infinite love, God came down, became man, and died for us. Salvation from judgement and the promise of eternal life is only found in Jesus Christ. (John 14:6)

Evolution

Reconquista is a diverse alliance of Christians from many different denominations and schools of thought, but we are united in our commitment to the essentials of the faith. As a result, we do not take stances on non-essential issues, one of which we consider to be the question of evolution and the age of the earth. As long as someone believes God created the heavens and the earth, and that humans are made in God's image, we do not have a problem with those who believe God used evolution over billions of years as a means to do so. Our leaders range from young-earth creationist to old-earth evolutionist and everything in between.
